Blog 46 - C4C Beach Battle!!

This past Saturday, one of our school clubs called Challenge for Charity held their annual Beach Battle event. The “Beach Battle” is a beach volleyball tournament played at Will Rogers State Beach in Malibu. Teams of four enter the competition for $15 that is donated to charity. In the club’s own words, this is what they do:

“For 25 years, the MBA Challenge for Charity (C4C), a non-profit 501(c)3, has drawn on the talents, energy and resources of MBAs from West Coast business schools to raise funds and volunteers for the Special Olympics. C4C organizations are active at Stanford, the University of Washington, University of San Francisco, UC-Berkeley, UC-Davis, UC-Irvine, UCLA, USC, and Pepperdine. Our goal at C4C Pepperdine is to inspire and develop business leaders with a lifelong commitment to community involvement and social responsibility. Pepperdine Challenge for Charity's mission is to support Special Olympics of Southern California and The Children's Lifesaving Foundation.”

During the tournament, we won our first game with a dominating victory. Our success in the competition was short lived however, as we were eliminated in the next round. Some teams took the event a little more serious than others... I believe one player actually had to go to the hospital with a head injury suffered during a diving incident! While I don’t claim to be any professional volleyball player, I had a great time playing with my friends. We continued to play pickup games throughout the afternoon. Everyone out there had a great time and it felt even better contributing to a worthwhile cause.
