This is officially my first full year as the “President” of the Management Consulting Club. After a very disorganized first year, I have learned a lot about how I want the club to function differently this year as opposed to last year. Last year, while I was an officer, I wasn’t able to really have much input on the overall goals and mission of the club. This year will be different...
Last year our club was run with the assumption that all of the club members were very knowledge and interested in consulting. Going with that assumption, our club’s primary focus was case interview preparation. While case interview prep is important for consulting interviews at some firms, many students wanted to just explore the field of consulting and find out what it’s all about. Our club, in addition to not having regular meetings... didn’t serve the needs of the majority of the membership.
This year the club will be run drastically different. First of all, the scope of the club will change slightly. The major change is that our club will now also incorporate the field of Human Resources into our area of speciality. I wanted to expand the club because it was a niche that wasn’t being filled by other clubs and I believe that I have experience that could help someone interested in becoming involved in the field. This is our new club mission statement:
“To prepare interested Pepperdine graduate students with future careers in consulting and human resources through exposure, education and career path development.”
These following points are designed to guide us in how we plan to operate the club:
“We Understand That Students Have Different Levels of Interest, Knowledge and Commitment to both consulting and human resources. Our main goal as a club, is to provide individual career development value to interested students regardless of their level of knowledge in the industry. Our club will function more like an interest group focused on the individual’s needs and how we can jointly help each other as a club with common interest.”
This year our club is planning on having monthly meetings where we bring in a speaker from the consulting world to speak and give advice on what it is like to be in the business world of consulting. In addition to our meetings, we will have individual career development sessions offered to our members where we as officers sit down with them and help them with their internship and job searches. As a club, we want to be able to provide as much value to the individual members as possible.
I am joined by two fellow club officers, Olga Litnska will serve as our Vice President and Shivani Chander will serve as our Industry Outreach Liaison. Both of my fellow club officers had impressive internships and have bright futures ahead of them. I am lucky to have them with me to help run the club.
