So this past weekend, my sister Suzanne and her roommate / best friend Megan came down to Malibu for a visit. Friday, we went out to a club in Hollywood called The Green Door for a school mixer the Public Policy program was having. Then on Saturday we went out to a local bar in Malibu called Moonshadows. While they were here, I gave them a tour of the campus and introduced them to all of my friends and roommates.
One of the nice things about going to Pepperdine is the amazing view and campus that we get to enjoy. Walking around and showing off the campus really makes you notice and appreciate the great environment we live in. Living and studying in such a great place helps balance out the inevitable stress that we all experience in our program.
Introducing my sister to my friends at Pepperdine was a great experience as well. My sister was able to meet students from all over the United States and many of our international students as well. I enjoyed letting my sister get to know all of my new friends down here.
A big part about having the free time to do social things is planning in advance for them. When I found out that Suzanne was planning to visit me, I made sure that I took care of all of my homework for the weekend before she got here. I also made sure to plan all of my weekend group meetings on Friday before they came. Its having good solid time management skills that allows us to get all of our work done, but also allows us to get out and have fun sometimes.
I really enjoyed my sister’s visit and I hope that she comes to visit me again soon. It must be a sign of maturity, that I am enjoying my sister’s company more and more throughout the years. It seems the older we get, the more meaningful our conversations become. Progressing from “What’s for dinner” and “What’s on TV” to long-term life plans, goals and dreams is a pretty big difference. I’m finding that I value my relationship with my sister more as time goes on.
Well the weekend vacation is now over... back to the grind!
