I decided to take a break from the more serious, MBA posts and throw a tribute out to our local DJ, “F-Double Dub”. Although he is also known as Frankie Warren, while being the apartment DJ, he is known as “F-Double Dub”.
One of Frankie’s hobbies is to spin techno-house style music. With new speakers from Christmas, our apartment is often times the social hangout spot among the on-campus students. It is not uncommon to hear the thumping bass coming from the U31 apartment. We do what we can to keep our neighbors either invited over or mostly content with the noise levels.
The National Association of Women MBAs has asked Frankie to DJ for their upcoming fashion show. The fashion show is a charitable event designed to provide funds for the nonprofit organization “Gear Up for Success”. Frankie has also been the DJ at various parties and social events when he attended Boston College.
When Frankie is playing his music, it is more than just music. It acts as a way for people to come together and have fun. It attracts unknown neighbors and friends alike. His music allows us all to set down that textbook, laptop or pile of 3x5 cards and socialize with one another. Our regulars have now learned Frankie’s music and everyone has their own favorite mixes. It still amazes me how much energy can be instilled in people by just listening to Frankie’s music.
Between DJ Frankie and our new Mr. Popularity Jerry Darko, our “apartment nightlife” is among the best on campus. While some of my other friends have complained about living on campus, it has really made my first year a great experience. I will always remember Frankie’s music and the subsequent social hangouts.
